Media asset management for video teams
Every shot your team has filmed, findable in seconds
ReelBase catalogs the footage on your NAS, builds lightweight proxies your team can browse from anywhere, and lets you find a clip by tag, filename or the words spoken in it. Then it takes your selects through client review and into Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
- Originals stay on your NAS
- Works with Premiere Pro & DaVinci Resolve
- Clients review without an account
- AI features optional, per clip
Why ReelBase
Your footage stays put. Your team gets to work.
Most video teams already have the footage. The hard part is getting to it, agreeing on what it is, and moving it through review and into the edit. That's the part ReelBase handles.
Find the shot, not the folder
Search filenames, tags and transcripts at once, filter by tag with counts, or jump straight to the moment a word is spoken.
Browse from anywhere, without moving originals
A small agent on your office network makes 720p proxies and uploads only those. Your original files never leave your storage.
Client feedback on the frame, not in email
Send a review link. Clients leave timestamped comments, draw on the frame and mark a cut Approved or Needs changes — no login required.
Selects that land in the edit
Export FCPXML, FCP7 XML or EDL that relink to your originals, or use the Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve panels.
Problems it solves
The everyday friction ReelBase was built to remove
Each answer below is a shipped part of the product today.

- The problem
- "Where is that shot?"
- With ReelBase

- The problem
- Client feedback arrives as emails and screenshots.
- With ReelBase
- Account-free review links with timestamped comments and drawings on the frame.
- The problem
- Getting selects into the edit takes manual relinking.
- With ReelBase
- FCPXML, FCP7 XML and EDL exports that relink to originals, plus editor panels.
- The problem
- Editors work away from the office storage.
- With ReelBase
- Download a proxy .zip to cut offline, then relink to originals later.

Catalog
Clips appear in the library with posters, metadata and hover-scrub previews.
Tag & search
Log with your team's vocabulary and find shots by tag, filename or spoken word.
Review
Send a link. Clients comment on the exact frame and approve or request changes.
Hand off
Send selects to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, relinked to your originals.

FAQ
Questions teams ask before a demo
Short answers to the most common questions. There's more in the resource center.
On your own storage — your NAS or drives. ReelBase never uploads your original files. A small ingest agent on your network reads them in place, creates lightweight previews, and sends only those previews and the clip's metadata to the ReelBase server. When you export to your editing software, the timeline points back to the originals on your storage.
Only lightweight previews and metadata:
- a 720p H.264 proxy of each clip, a poster frame and a hover-scrub sprite sheet
- technical metadata (duration, frame rate, resolution, file name and path) and a content fingerprint that identifies the clip even if the file is renamed or moved
- the tags, notes and lists your team adds
- transcripts, if you turn on the optional AI features for that clip
Original camera files stay on your storage.
ReelBase hands off to Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. You can export a selects list or rough cut as FCPXML (for Resolve), FCP7 XML (for Premiere Pro) or a CMX3600 EDL, or download a .zip of proxies for offline editing. There's also a DaVinci Resolve panel (requires Resolve Studio) and a Premiere Pro panel, which is currently unsigned and installs in debug mode.
For footage, the ingest agent uses FFmpeg, so it handles the formats FFmpeg can decode — including common camera and delivery formats such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, ProRes and DNxHD/DNxHR. Some proprietary raw formats can't be decoded; tell us what your cameras record and we'll confirm during a demo. AAF and OTIO export are on the roadmap.
No. AI is optional, and you can switch it on or off per clip and per ingest batch. Keyword search, tags, notes, lists, review and export all work without it. Settings shows an estimate of AI cost before you commit.
When you turn AI on, these providers process the data needed for each feature:
- Speech search and transcripts: the clip's audio is sent to OpenAI (Whisper) for transcription.
- Search by meaning: text such as transcripts and tags is sent to OpenAI to create embeddings.
- Visual auto-tagging: low-resolution frame sheets from the proxy are sent to Anthropic (Claude).
AI-generated tags are kept separate from the tags your team adds by hand. Original files are never sent.
No. You send a private review link, optionally protected with a passcode and an expiry date. Your client can play the cut, leave comments tied to the exact timecode, draw on the frame, and mark it Approved or Needs changes. Your team replies in threads and marks notes as resolved. With the DaVinci Resolve panel, the notes can be added to your timeline as markers.
We quote each team individually for now. Pricing depends on the size of your team, how much footage you keep in ReelBase (proxy storage), how many locations or ingest agents you run, and whether you use the optional AI features. There's no self-serve checkout: request a demo or contact us and we'll send a quote.
