Features

Everything your team needs between the shoot and the edit

ReelBase covers ingest, logging, search, selects, client review and hand-off to your editing software — while your original footage stays on your own storage. Here's what each part does, who it helps, and the problem it solves.

01 · Ingest & proxies

Ingest & proxies

Bring footage in once, consistently, and make it viewable anywhere — without uploading originals.

What it does
A Windows ingest agent on your network watches the folders you choose, fingerprints each file by its content, reads its metadata with ffprobe, and builds a 720p H.264 proxy, a poster frame and a hover-scrub sprite. Only those previews and the metadata go to the ReelBase server.
Who benefits
Assistant editors, DITs and producers who offload cards — and anyone who has to find that footage later.
The problem it solves
Raw footage is too large to move to the cloud, and inconsistent offloads make it hard to know what you have.
How it improves your workflow
Drag in files or whole card folders on the Ingest tab, apply a batch-rename pattern and tags as the footage arrives, and choose whether AI runs on that batch. New clips show up in the library automatically.
Illustrative interface with sample data

Details

  • One-click Windows installer that bundles Node and ffmpeg and starts the agent at logon.
  • Watch folders are managed from the server, with a "Scan now" button for immediate pickup.
  • Several agents can share a folder and split the work; a disk-space guard prevents runaway jobs.
  • Batch rename to a consistent pattern such as Project_VideoType_YYYYMMDD_Camera_Card_####.

Good to know

The agent currently runs on Windows only, and its installer is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen asks for confirmation once. Copying to the NAS from the browser on the Ingest tab works in Chrome and Edge.

02 · Library & browsing

Library & browsing

See everything you've shot, in the layout that suits the task.

What it does
The Log tab shows your catalog in Grid, Filmstrip or List view. Hover over a clip to scrub through it, then open it in a custom player alongside its metadata, transcript, tags and sub-clips.
Who benefits
Producers, loggers and editors who need to see footage quickly without opening a project in their editor.
The problem it solves
Browsing a NAS folder by filename tells you almost nothing about what's in each clip, and playing originals over the network is slow.
How it improves your workflow
Skim a whole shoot by hovering instead of opening files one by one, and play any clip from its lightweight proxy wherever you are.

Details

  • Grid, Filmstrip and List views.
  • Hover-scrub previews built from sprite sheets.
  • Clips are tracked by content, so they keep their tags and notes when files are renamed or moved.

03 · Tagging & logging

Tagging & logging

One shared vocabulary, so a tag means the same thing to everyone.

What it does
Admins define tag categories — single or multiple choice — and choose which ones appear at ingest and which feed into file names. Alongside them you can add free tags, notes and client fields to any clip, one at a time or in bulk.
Who benefits
Loggers and producers who organize footage, and the editors who rely on that logging to find shots.
The problem it solves
Everyone logs differently, so searches miss clips that were described with a different word.
How it improves your workflow
Tag as footage arrives instead of in a separate pass, start from a seeded starter vocabulary, and fix a batch of clips at once with bulk actions. Everything you log becomes searchable.

Details

  • Single- and multiple-choice tag categories, plus free-form tags.
  • Tag-at-ingest and use-in-naming options per category.
  • Notes and client fields on every clip.
  • Bulk actions for logging many clips at once.

05 · Selects, sub-clips & timeline

Selects, sub-clips & a rough-cut timeline

Pull the best moments together before anyone opens the full edit.

What it does
Mark in and out points to save named sub-clips, collect clips and sub-clips into named lists, and trim or reorder each item. The Edit tab adds source and program monitors over a single-track timeline with ripple insert and delete, trimming, saved sequences, and J/K/L and I/O shortcuts.
Who benefits
Producers building selects for an editor, and editors who want a quick assembly before the real edit.
The problem it solves
Selects shared as timecode lists in a document are slow to build and easy to get wrong when they reach the edit suite.
How it improves your workflow
Build the selects where the footage is already logged, then hand the list straight to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
Illustrative interface with sample data

Details

  • Named lists with per-item trim and reorder.
  • Sub-clips with in/out points.
  • Single-track timeline with ripple insert/delete and saved sequences.
  • J/K/L shuttle and I/O keyboard shortcuts.

Good to know

The Edit tab is for selects and rough assemblies. It is not a full editing application — finishing happens in your editor.

06 · Hand-off to Premiere & Resolve

Hand-off to Premiere Pro & DaVinci Resolve

Move selects and client notes into the edit without manual relinking.

What it does
Export a list or sequence as FCPXML (for DaVinci Resolve), FCP7 XML (for Premiere Pro), CMX3600 EDL, or a .zip of proxies. Exports relink to your original files. Editor panels bring review notes into your editing software and let you send clips from ReelBase into your open project.
Who benefits
Editors and finishing artists working in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
The problem it solves
Rebuilding selects by hand in the editor, and copying client notes from emails onto the timeline, is slow and error-prone.
How it improves your workflow
In Resolve, the panel adds review notes as timeline markers and "Send new cut" renders the next version and creates its review link. In Premiere, the panel shows the review page — drawings included — and clicking a note moves the playhead.
Illustrative interface with sample data

Details

  • FCPXML, FCP7 XML and CMX3600 EDL exports that relink to originals.
  • Proxy .zip download for offline editing and later relinking.
  • DaVinci Resolve panel: review notes as markers, and "Send new cut" back to review.
  • Premiere Pro panel: the review page inside Premiere, with click-to-jump notes.

Good to know

The Resolve panel requires DaVinci Resolve Studio (and Python 3.10). The Premiere Pro panel is currently unsigned and installs in debug mode. The editing machine must be able to reach the original media to relink.

07 · Client review

Client review

Feedback tied to the exact frame, from clients who never have to create an account.

What it does
Create a review link for a deliverable, optionally with a passcode and an expiry date. Clients play the cut, leave timestamped comments, draw on the frame, and mark it Approved or Needs changes. Your team replies in threads, resolves notes and shares deep links to specific comments.
Who benefits
Producers and project leads who manage client feedback — and the clients and stakeholders giving it.
The problem it solves
Feedback by email and screenshots is vague ("the part near the end"), scattered across threads and easy to miss.
How it improves your workflow
Every note carries its timecode and, when needed, a drawing on a locked still frame — so the editor knows exactly what to change and can tick it off when it's done.
Illustrative interface with sample data

Details

  • Tokenized review links with optional passcode and expiry.
  • No account needed for clients.
  • Timestamped comments and on-frame drawings.
  • Approved / Needs changes status, threaded replies and resolved notes.

08 · Teams, workspaces & admin

Teams, workspaces & administration

Keep each business or client's library separate, with access you control.

What it does
Each workspace keeps its own isolated library, with its own logo and storage quota; people who belong to several can switch between them. Access is invite-only, with email/password or Google sign-in and two roles: admin and member. An integration API with personal access tokens lets other systems connect.
Who benefits
Studio owners and admins who manage people, storage and integrations.
The problem it solves
Shared drives offer little control over who sees what, and footage for different clients or businesses gets mixed together.
How it improves your workflow
Admins invite people, set roles and manage settings; members do the day-to-day browsing, logging, editing and review. Storage use per workspace stays visible against its quota.

Details

  • Isolated workspaces with a workspace switcher.
  • Workspace logo branding and a per-workspace storage quota.
  • Invite-only access; admin and member roles.
  • Integration API with personal access tokens.

Good to know

There is no self-serve sign-up: an admin invites each person.

09 · Deletion sync & originals safety

Deletion sync & originals safety

ReelBase keeps its catalog in step with your storage — and never touches your source files.

What it does
If a file disappears from every folder ReelBase watches, the clip is flagged as missing. After a 24-hour grace period, only ReelBase's own copies — its catalog entry and proxy — are removed. Drives that are fully offline are skipped automatically.
Who benefits
Admins and anyone responsible for the media archive.
The problem it solves
Catalogs drift out of date as files are moved or deleted, and nobody wants a tool that might delete originals.
How it improves your workflow
Because clips are identified by content, a moved or copied file is recognized as the same clip. When swapping drives, you can pause deletion sync for that agent first.

Details

  • Original files are never uploaded, modified or deleted by ReelBase.
  • Missing files are flagged first and purged from the catalog only after 24 hours.
  • Offline drives are skipped, and deletion sync can be paused per agent.
