Exporting a selects list to DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro
Build a selects list in ReelBase, export it, and open it in Resolve or Premiere with every clip linked to your original media.
A selects list is a named group of clips and sub-clips — your bin of best takes. Exporting it gives your editor a file that opens in the NLE with the original high-resolution media, not the proxies.
Before you start
- The clips are already in ReelBase (ingested by the agent).
- The editing machine can reach the original files at the same location the agent recorded — the same network share or mapped drive. Exports point at those original paths so the NLE can link to them.
1. Build the list
- In the Log tab, open a clip to see its detail view.
- To use only part of a clip, use the Sub-clips panel: play to the start point and mark In, play to the end and mark Out, then name and save the sub-clip.
- Add the clip or sub-clip to a list from the detail view. You can create and manage lists from Lists in the top bar.
2. Export
Open Lists from the top bar and select your list. You'll see four export options:
- Export FCPXML — for DaVinci Resolve (and Final Cut Pro).
- Premiere XML — an FCP7 XML file for Premiere Pro, which can't read FCPXML.
- EDL — a CMX3600 edit decision list: a single video track with reel names only. Useful for a quick conform when XML isn't an option.
- Proxies (.zip) — the list's proxies plus an FCPXML and a Premiere XML that point at those proxies, for editing offline.
Sub-clips export with their in and out points. The Edit tab offers the same FCPXML, Premiere XML and EDL exports for a saved sequence.
3a. Open it in DaVinci Resolve
- In Resolve, choose File → Import → Timeline and select the .fcpxml file.
- The clips arrive in list order, linked to the original files.
3b. Open it in Premiere Pro
- In Premiere, choose File → Import and select the Premiere XML (.xml) file.
- Premiere creates the sequence and its clips, linked to the original files.
Working away from the office
Download Proxies (.zip) and unzip it. The Media folder holds each proxy named like its original. Import the .fcpxml (Resolve) or the .premiere.xml (Premiere) from the zip and the timeline links to the bundled proxies. Back on the network, relink to the originals by file name.
Troubleshooting
- Clips come in offline: the editing machine can't see the original path. Check that the share or drive is mounted the same way as on the agent's PC.
- Mixed frame rates: lists can mix frame rates. After importing, check the timeline's frame rate in your NLE before you start cutting.
Sending single clips with the editor panels
If you use the ReelBase panel for DaVinci Resolve (requires Resolve Studio) or Premiere Pro, you can also send a clip from its detail view with Send to Resolve or Send to Premiere, then choose Get clips from ReelBase in the panel to import it into the open project.
